Tires can make all the difference to your driving experience. That should go without saying. But how many of us give much thought to which brand we have on our car? Here are 10 of the best to look out for.

Michelin

Consistently ranked a five-star tire manufacturer, Michelin may be the best brand in the world. And so they should be, having been making tires since the late 19th century. Their particular strength is tread wear, for which they offer warranties on replacements unlike many other brands.

Japanese brand Yokohama is known for excellent grip in both wet and dry conditions. Established in 1917, it's also known for its race track tires (Advan), 4WD tires (Geolander) and eco-friendly tires (BluEarth).

Bridgestone

Did you know Bridgestone is also a Japanese tire manufacturer? Its product range includes tires for everyday use and racing, and it caters to a spectrum of budgets. Among its best models are Ecopia, Potenza and Turanza.

Continental

German tire company Continental is the longest-running on this list, having been established in 1871. Their tires are known for excellent handling and grip in wet and dry conditions.

Goodyear

Goodyear is the all-American manufacturer that once supplied racing tires to Henry Ford. Nowadays, the company maintains a tire reputation for good value, all-weather handling and stopping ability.

Pirelli

Italy's Pirelli is closely associated with Formula One racing. And their tires aren't cheap. If you're interested in high speed and racing-level grip, then you're probably willing to invest the money.

Hankook

Reviews for Hankook tires usually sing the manufacturer's praises. The South Korean company is popular for its everyday range. The Hankook Dynapro ATM is a particular favorite among its customers.

Dunlop

British manufacturer Dunlop was founded in 1888 by the inventor of the air-inflated tire, John Boyd Dunlop. Although the brand is currently owned by Goodyear, it has its own reputation for dependable quality.

Cooper

Cooper is a brand of brands, incorporating Dick Cepek, Starfire Roadmaster and Mastercraft in its sizeable portfolio. The Cooper brand itself is known for generous warranties, affordability and good performance options.

BFGoodrich

Award-winning BFGoodrich has won accolades at the likes of the Baja California Contest and the Paris-Dakar Rally. Owned by Michelin since 1990, it was also the official tire supplier for the 2006 and 2007 World Rally Championships.
