Removing embedded soap dish thing...help!

Decided to remodel our bathroom AFTER ()having our erstwhile l'due south porcelain tub refinished. Question is, how do we (tin can we?) remove the ugly, stained soap dish that is embedded in ceramic tile? Never mind the vice grips on the hot water handle! haha....replacing those fixtures FOR SURE!!!

Easiest manner is to remove some of the surrounding tiles and prying it out. If the are any screws in the shampoo box, take them out and try prying it using a combination of prybar, chisels and the trusted hammer.

Welcome, Julie.

Scottly, maybe Ms. Julie could remove hers without the excessive use of drugs, eh? While I must acknowledge, booze has been known to help the removal of some things, your method of awarding would seem to exist limiting.

Julie, are you lot trying to supercede JUST the soap dish and go on the tiles?

If replacing all tile work, whatsoever hammer will take it out.

Be careful. They manner the used to be fix effectually here in the days of four 1/4" wall tile was to wad some newspapers jamb them in the hole, caulk the rim and backfill the fixture with plaster so information technology would mushroom in the wall behind the tile.

Ya'll did that with those metal holders, too, Dave?

I like those handy little miter cuts to avoid getting out the wet saw.

Yup, when the blocking wasn't there, or in the correct place.

Some metal lather holders have screws on the sides that have an expansion strip/plate on them. Kinda like the GEM plaster boxes that pushed a plate off the wall behind to hold it in identify.

I take besides seen soap holders that accept a rear screw that works similar to this plaster box.

LOLOL about the booze consumption. We have a rule here regarding alcohol....no power tools or ladders after consuming!! haha...

Nosotros but want to remove the fixtures all over in the bath. 4 towel confined?! Plus that nasty soap dish that we've managed to ruin over the years using various products to get it sparkly again. Wondering if we shouldn't just try to paint the doggone thing. Removing tiles around it sounds like a screw upwards waiting to happen and then what?!

there will be no way to realistically remove the lather tray and supplant it and have the wall even so be waterproofed.

exercise you know if y'all have whatever waterproofing in there? You probably dont as the soap tray looks ancient.
